Amazon will take the series based on “Lord of the rings” trilogy by J. cult. R. R. Tolkien. Trading company bought the rights to the film adaptation, spending $250 million.
Over the TV-adaptation will run Amazon Studios, the company Tolkien Estate and Trust, managing the heritage of John. R. R. Tolkien publisher HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment. According to Sharon tal Yguado, head of Amazon Studios scripts, anyone who loves the iconic trilogy, the series will take “an epic journey through middle-earth”.
A few seasons of the series will not show what had already shot Peter Jackson, but will reveal the story before the adventures of Frodo in “the Fellowship of the ring” is the first part of the trilogy. Based on the texts of Tolkien, Amazon will develop the new story lines, including spin-offs – derived stories about the characters and the details of the books. Matt Galser of the Tolkien Estate and Trust noted that Aguado is going to film the stories of Tolkien, who still didn’t pay attention.
Earlier, on 5 November it became known about negotiations of head of Amazon Jeff Bezos with the Estate and Tolkien Trust, Warner Bros. and HarperCollins. In addition to the online store the right to remove fantasy series claimed Netflix.
