Ukraine shows no willingness to exchange prisoners. This was stated press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov, reports “TASS”.
“I understand that the Russians, who were convicted and are in Ukraine, want to go back home. But we’re not sure about the readiness of the Ukrainian side to take some steps”, – said Peskov.
Also Peskov said that he knew nothing about the fact that the number of Russians living in Ukrainian prisons, wrote a letter to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin with a request to exchange them for the Ukrainians who are in places of deprivation of freedom in Russia.
A Kremlin spokesman added that “everything depends on that, you are talking about”.
“If we are talking about prisoners in accordance with our legislation of the Russian citizens. There are a lot of nuances. Until the Ukrainian side does not show the necessary willingness and flexibility,” – said Peskov.
Earlier, Irina Gerashchenko said that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is ready to pardon the Russians who have been held in Ukraine in exchange for Ukrainian prisoners in the Russian Federation.
The Commissioner for human rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Liudmyla Denisova reported that he had received 22 applications from prisoners in Ukraine of Russian citizens to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with the request to return them to Russia in exchange for one of Ukrainian political prisoners.
The Russian side rejected the initiative of Ukraine to meet in Minsk to discuss the transfer of the Russian Federation 36 Russian citizens in exchange for the Ukrainians.
