The Ministry of infrastructure of Ukraine intends to stop passenger rail transportation to/from Russia, the abolition of freight transport is not considered. This was announced by the Minister of infrastructure Vladimir Omelian, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“We have prepared a number of countermeasures regarding what is happening from the Russian Federation in the occupied territories and the sea of Azov. This set of measures includes the termination of railway communication with Russia. The issue was discussed at the interagency working meetings in the Ministry of infrastructure. We want it to be rendered in the plane of the government or of the Council of national security and defense of Ukraine that the decision was taken at the state level, ” he said.
The Minister stressed that at the moment it is only about the cessation of passenger rail.
“At this stage we’re talking about regular railway passenger transport. Cargo message the problem is not only that “Ukrzaliznytsia” will lose significant revenues to its budget, but also with international legislation, in particular with the commitments that Ukraine undertook in the WTO. So while we studied, but do not promote” – he said.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine plans to discontinue railway passenger communication with Russia since July 1. However, in the “Ukrzaliznytsia” said that Kyiv has not officially adopted the corresponding bounding solutions.
