The environmental situation in Crimea could occur due to the use of saline water in the technological process at the enterprise of Ukrainian Chemical Products, known as plant “Crimean Titan”. Such preliminary data reported by the head of the Kherson regional state administration Andrey Gordeev in the TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
“We are confident at 90% that we are talking about the violation of technological mode of the plant. This is due to the fact that the water, which he took for the process, taking from wells, and, according to yet unconfirmed information, went the water from these wells is salty because the fresh water reserves in Crimea are not limitless, about 4 years ago, scientists warned that the underground fresh water lake, which is in the Crimea, was formed due to seepage of water from the North Crimean channel,” – said Gordeev.
He said air pollution could cause the use of saline water.
“And it is likely that this water used in the technological process at the plant “Titan” went salty. As a result, emergency response and the emissions from this plant. They usually occur at night, because there is a temperature difference, and these emissions are deposited in the form of oily spots, in the form of sulfuric acid, in the form of a suffocating odor and leads to the defeat of the nasopharynx,” – said Andrey Gordeev.
He expressed hope that with the participation of the Commission of Kyiv approved the final conclusions about the causes of air pollution.
“At this moment on behalf of the Prime Minister came here, the Commission, under the chairmanship of the Ministry of ecology, composed of almost all Deputy Ministers. Right now, we went to the KPVV “Kalanchak”, to this acid drive, where there are consequences of these sediments below in the affirmative to fulfill the version: it the drive or the acid emissions of the plant that works”, – noted the Chairman of regional state administration.
Gordeyev said that on the territory of Kherson region there are small pockets of concentration of toxic substances.
“At the moment, the group of doctors works with all items that somehow fall under the influence of this substance. We are seeking a common symptoms. At the moment we do not endorse the systematic intrusion”, he added.
Andrey Gordeev noted that the monitoring activities of the plant, but the dynamics stop not found: “Emissions have been, and move on. Dynamics to reduce emissions of no.”
We will remind, in the town of Armyansk in the North annexed the Crimea there was an emission into the atmosphere of substances of unknown origin. On metal objects, rooftops, on the leaves of the trees formed oily coating having a yellowish tint. First, the representatives of the occupation authorities did not recognize the problem, but on 4 September, “Crimean government” for the first time stated that the maximum permissible concentration of sulfur dioxide in Armyansk and nearby towns exceeded the norm. Children were evacuated, local residents encouraged to spend less time outdoors.
Sulfur dioxide, or sulfur oxide (IV) is a sulfur compound with the oxygen composition of SO2. Under normal conditions, this colorless gas with a characteristic pungent smell (smell of a lighted match). Very toxic. Symptoms of poisoning with sulphurous gas are runny nose, cough, hoarseness, severe sore throat and a peculiar taste. Inhalation of sulfur dioxide higher concentrations, asphyxiation, speech disorder, difficulty swallowing, vomiting, and possible acute pulmonary edema.
