The statement of the Minister of internal Affairs of Italy Matteo Salvini about the “legality” of the “referendum” in the Crimea should be seen as the words of the policy, not a government representative. This was stated by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Italy Yevhen Perelygin in an interview to “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“Let’s assume that Matteo Salvini – not just the Minister, and the leader of the political party, which today has the most support companies – according to data, about 32%. He also stated that it was annexed Crimea in violation of Ukrainian legislation. Unfortunately, his actions have not found an adequate reaction in the society. Obviously, I don’t always share, when he acts as the head of the interior Ministry, when – as the leader of a political party”,- said the Ambassador.
He also stressed that colleagues Salvini’s government did not support his statement, the Italian foreign Minister during his speech in Parliament said that Italy continues to support the decisions of the international community and to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
We remind that earlier the Minister of internal Affairs of Italy Matteo Salvini said he believes the annexation of Crimea is legitimate, and the Revolution of dignity in Ukraine called “fake”. The Ministry of foreign Affairs condemned the statements of Italian politics, and Italy’s Ambassador to Ukraine David La Cecilia assured that “Italy’s position in support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is a clear and consistent”.
