Ukraine in the sixth lawsuit against Russia asks European court of human rights to impose additional personal sanctions against officials involved in violations of the rights of Ukrainian political prisoners. It is also planned to propose the formation of a sanctions list such as the “Magnitsky list”. This was announced by the Minister of justice Pavel Petrenko, reports 112.ua.
“(The lawsuit – ed.) describes mass human rights violations that are allowed against the Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia with the specific names involved Russian officials, including officials. This gives us an argument to our international partners, to impose additional personal sanctions against the entire leadership of the Russian Federation and involved in those politically motivated prosecutions of officials working in the Russian Federation”, – he said.
Petrenko said that the Ministry of justice also intends to invite the international partners to form a separate sanctions list similar to the “Magnitsky list”. It will contain the list of persons involved in the kidnapping, imprisonment, abuse and torture of Ukrainian citizens are political prisoners in Russia.
The head of the Ministry of justice hopes that the ECHR will promptly consider the matter and it will be identified as a priority.
We will remind, the Ministry of justice of Ukraine as of today has filed to the European court of human rights 6 claims against Russia. The latter concerns violations of the rights of political prisoners.
