Ukraine has transferred to the budget of the Council of Europe voluntary contribution of 400 thousand dollars

Украина передала в бюджет Совета Европы добровольный взнос в 400 тысяч долларов

Ukraine has completed the process of implementation of the voluntary contribution to the budget of the Council of Europe. Total was transferred to 400 thousand dollars, according to the permanent mission of Ukraine to the Council of Europe on his page in Facebook.

As emphasized in the representation, the financial position of the Council of Europe has deteriorated after Russia’s refusal to pay contributions to the budget in 2017. By financial blackmail, the Kremlin is trying to secure the return of the Russian delegation in PACE.

“The move has put the organization in a particularly difficult position, because during the last decade, the budget of the Council of Europe was formed in the conditions of budget cuts in most member States. In these circumstances, the government of Ukraine has decided to financially support the Council of Europe. We made a voluntary contribution in addition to its obligatory payments to the budget”, – reports the Ukrainian office.

The funds are intended for use in areas such as the functioning of the ECHR, the fight against corruption, the fight against racism and intolerance, prevention of torture, protection of minorities, integration of nomads into society, the equation of the rights of men and women, protecting the safety of journalists and the protection of cultural heritage.

“In a difficult period of modern history of Ukraine we became the recipient of assistance from the Council of Europe. I am glad that today Ukraine has become a donor of such assistance. It is an act of solidarity of Ukraine with the Council of Europe in the dark to organize a time when its ability to protect its own values and principles, test of strength,” said permanent representative of Ukraine to the Council of Europe Dmitry Kuleba.
