At least 2593 people were victims of the fighting in eastern Ukraine in the period from mid-April to 27 August 2014.
These data are presented in a new report from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
As referred to in the document, now in the east every day killed 36 people on average. More than three times more than at the beginning of the conflict. “In the last 10 days the number has increased even more,” – said Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ivan Šimonović at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.
Note only three days ago, August 26, 2249 the UN reported dead.
uring his speech Šimonović said that military means alone can not resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine, and that each party increased its strength by mobilizing, building more powerful weapons, outside assistance, will only increase the number of victims.
The report of the UNHCR, which covers the period from 16 July to 17 August, expressed deep concern over the death and injury of women in the Donbas, living in settlements on the territory of conflict or trying to escape from the fighting, using corridors identified for this.
It also notes that many children evacuated from the zone of ATO in other regions of Ukraine were blocked by illegal armed groups.
