Odessa celebrates its 224 th anniversary. The official events kicked off with the ceremonial raising of the flag at the Duma area near the building of city hall. September 2 in Odessa was attended by over 40 foreign delegations, including ambassadors extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in different countries.
With a solemn speech of the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov and the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.
“Odessa is entering a qualitatively new level, which is reflected in all spheres of our life. Today, we are one and United. We have common goals and plans for the future,” said Gennady Trukhanov.
“Odessa is a beautiful and atmospheric city. Well, that Odessa is run by a man who loves her,” – said Pavlo Klimkin.
Also on the square, the mayor handed over the keys to 14 apartments to orphan children.
The highlight was another gift from the Greek Diaspora – the opening of the first phase of the Greek Park on the slopes of the Primorsky Boulevard. The main symbol of the Park – a unique fountain “Beginning of beginnings”, authored by the Odessa sculptor Michael Reva.
According to the annual tradition, the seven new stars added to the famous Avenue of Stars of Odessa on Lanzheronovskaya street.
Name plate has the silent film actress Vera Cold, the diocesan architect Yury Dmitrenko, theatre activist Vasil Vasilko, violinist and conductor David Oistrakh, artist Valentina Khrushchev, Opera singer Antonina Nezhdanova and jazz pianist and composer Yuri Kuznetsov.
“These are people who by their deeds glorified Odessa all over the world. The people whose names are forever inscribed in the history of Odessa”, – said Gennady Trukhanov.
