(Granby) Important hustle and bustle at the Galeries de Granby. Project of more than one million dollars, Sports Experts will relocate in the mall, which will have a domino effect on several businesses.
The Sports Experts branch, owned by contractor Serge Tremblay, will leave its current location, adjacent to the Walmart, this fall, to replace the shops currently occupied by Taylor, Hi-Fi Center and The Children’s Place. Detail: all three will be relocated elsewhere in the mail.
Work will be undertaken as early as June to bring these three premises together in one large space. “I will move from a 9500 square foot store to 15,000 square feet. Guests will also be able to enjoy outside access, direct to the parking lot. They will not have to go back to the galleries to have their bicycles repaired or their skis or skates sharpened, “explained Serge Tremblay.
He says he has been working on this expansion project for seven years. He even seriously thought about leaving the mall at one time, but the stars finally aligned so that this relocation scenario materialized.
The new store will be built according to the new “Blanc” concept of the Sports Experts, that is to say that the decoration will be more refined. However, the technology will be more present, including an interactive shoe department and the presence of several screens, details Mr. Tremblay.
The merchant, also owner of the franchises Atmosphère and Sports Experts in Bromont, believes that this is a “very, very big project”. “I’m nervous, feverish,” he says.
Currently, 25 to 30 people work at his Granby store. The expansion of the trade will allow him to hire 10 more people, he said.
The opening of the new Sports Experts is scheduled for the autumn. No date has yet been targeted. The current store could close two or three days to allow the final set-up in the new premises, says Serge Tremblay.
The relocation of Sports Experts will in fact represent the start of an important game of musical chairs in the mall, commented Tuesday the general manager of the Granby Galleries, Daniel Touchette.
At present, several premises are empty, but most will be filled in the coming months, some by relocated businesses, others by new entrants, so that there will be very few premises to rent in the area. Shopping mall in 2018, notes Touchette.
“We’re really on a good rental wave. People will be pleased to see that the Galleries are dynamic. It’s going to be a big year of work, in 2017, to welcome new tenants, “he says.
A major project is also being prepared. If it goes ahead, it will be deployed on the premises of the former Librairie des Galeries as well as in some other neighboring premises, including the entrance to the shopping center, to form a large 15,000 square foot space. Again, this will result in the relocation of the businesses targeted by this operation.
Another project concerns the premises once occupied by the Granby Petroleum, which has been empty for a long time. Daniel Touchette refuses to go into details for the moment, because some strings remain to tie.
The two restaurants vacant in the food court should also resume life soon, says the DG of Galleries. In short, the shopping center is at the heart of a new effervescence that contrasts with the gloom of the last years, rejoices Mr. Touchette.
